Workforce Recruitment Program

Application Deadline: Thursday, October 12, 2023

The Accessibility Center has been privileged to coordinate the Workforce Recruitment Program for many years, and the time has come to transition the program to the Careers and Experiential Learning (CXL) Office. This will be a great opportunity for students who are connected with the Accessibility Center to interact with CXL to prepare for other internship and employment opportunities. Sterling May (sterling_may@byu.edu), with CXL, will now coordinate the Workforce Recruitment Program. Please be patient with him as he learns the program, and please know that the Accessibility Center will remain involved in verifying disability status for participation in the program.

What is the Workforce Recruitment Program?

The Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP) is sponsored by the Federal government and connects highly motivated college students (all majors and class standings) and recent graduates with disabilities to Federal employers and contractors across the nation for summer internships (usually paid) and full-time employment.

Generally, participating employers include various sectors of the Federal government or businesses that contract with the Federal government to provide goods or services. Additionally, candidates may be located anywhere across the country or have opportunities to travel internationally depending on the agency with which they are placed and/or the nature of the work assigned.

Check out the list of employers that hired WRP candidates in 2022.

Eligibility Requirements for WRP:

  1. Candidates must have a disability which makes them eligible to use the Schedule A Hiring Authority, and request a Schedule A letter from Tyler Briggs (tyler_briggs@byu.edu). The Accessibility Center will verify that candidates have current documentation on file.
  2. Candidates must be United States citizens.
  3. Candidates must be current, full-time, degree-seeking, post-secondary students unless taking a reduced course load due to disabilities OR if they are in their final semester prior to graduation.
  4. Alumni who met the preceding requirements while enrolled but have graduated on or after April 1, 2021, are also eligible.

How to Participate with the WRP:

  • Complete an online application by Thursday, October 12, 2023, even if you completed an application last year. Please contact Sterling May (sterling_may@byu.edu) for application instructions.
  • Candidates who complete their WRP applications will be allowed to participate in an optional informational interview with a WRP recruiter to gain valuable insights about working for the Federal government (interviews will occur sometime between Monday, October 23, 2023, and Wednesday, November 15, 2023, depending on the recruiter's availability). Although this interview is not required, this is a fantastic chance to network with an industry professional.
  • Await the release of the candidate database in mid-December 2023 (which will contain your application information) that Federal employers/contractors will use to select you as a potential candidate to fill open employment/internship positions if your qualifications meet their needs.
  • Employers seeking summer interns will likely begin contacting candidates in January 2024.
  • Employers seeking full-time (long-term) employees could contact candidates as late as December 2024.

Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity!
